KURNOOL: APSRTC proposed to run 306 specials in connection with Sivaratri between February 14 and 18. Regional Manager P. Seshagiri Rao said that 11 depots would operate buses to different Shivite shrines.

Sixty eight more buses would be operated from Srisailam to Kurnool and Nandyal on Sivaratri day. — Special Correspondent

Farmer ends life

KADAPA: A farmer Hussaini, 35, committed suicide by consuming poison at Chakrayapet on Saturday.

Hussaini allegedly argued with field officer Ramakrishna Reddy of Andhra Pragathi Grameena Bank objecting to the latter's proposal to adjust Rs. 3,200, granted for housing, to his loan arrears. Subsequently, bank officials relented. But he mysteriously ended life after leaving the bank. — Staff Reporter

School admission

HYDERABAD: Applications have been invited from Scheduled Tribe students for admission into Class I of Hyderabad Public School, Begumpet. Children should be residents of Hyderabad district and their age should not be more than six years as on May 21, 2007. Parents' income should be less than Rs. 12,000 per year. Applications can be had from the Tribal Welfare Office at the Ranga Reddy Collectorate office, Lakdikapul. Last date for submitting forms is February 14. Funds for hospitals

HYDERABAD: The Government has released Rs. 22.04 crores under the National Rural Health Mission and RCH-II Project to the hospital development societies and village health and sanitation committees for carrying out health and hygiene works in hospitals. A press release by Family Welfare Commissioner C.B.S.Venkata Ramana said the 21,916 societies/committees could utilise the funds.The Government had also released Rs. 31 crore for carrying out repair works in hospitals. — Special Correspondent

Aid for women

HYDERABAD: C.B.S. Venkata Ramana, Family Welfare Commissioner, said in a press release that women who had given birth after November 1, 2005 could contact the medical superintendent of the hospital in urban areas and the ANM in rural areas to avail of financial aid under the "Janani Suraksha Yojana Scheme". It gives monetary help to pregnant women for first two deliveries. In case of problems, they can contact the district medical and health officer or the Family Welfare Commissioner, Sultan Bazar, Hyderabad 500 095. — Special Correspondent

Plea on health cover

HYDERABAD: The CPI State Council has charged the Government with failing to pay its share of Rs. 800 towards health cover for each handloom weaver from the ICICI Lombard Insurance. K. Narayana, party secretary, said because of the non-payment of its share by the Government, the company was refusing to issue health cards to weavers. — Special Correspondent

Naxal arrested

Rajahmundry: East Godavari police arrested a naxalite, Batchala Lakshmaiah, 48, who had been functioning underground for more than 25 years on Saturday. SP B. Srinivasulu said Lakshmaiah was a dalam commander.

KHAMMAM: The Sree Kavitha Engineering College, Karepalli, will organise two-day IT job mela from February 17, according to the principal of the institution, K. Ranganadha Babu, and chairman, P. Usha Kiran Kumar. They said that four IT companies would take part in the campus selection. Final year B.Tech and MCA students could register their names along with those who had already passed the examination with 60 per cent marks in 2006 to participate in the job fair before February 14. - Staff Reporter
