HYDERABAD: Former BJP president M. Venkaiah Naidu has asked the UPA Government to evolve a consensus among all State Governments for creating a single Central agency to deal with terrorism, smuggling of arms, drug trafficking, money laundering and other organised crime. Such an agency was a long felt need that the BJP-led NDA Government recognised, but it failed to make headway owing to apprehensions expressed by certain States, Mr. Naidu stated at a press meet here on Saturday. He sought revival of the efforts in the light of recent experiences of terrorist organisations operating in different parts of the country. These activities could not be left to law and order agencies as they were equipped to handle only ordinary crime. A specialised institution as suggested by the committee headed by former Solicitor General of India Soli Sorabjee alone could deal with the problem, the BJP leader felt. He said the BJP would launch the second phase of its agitation against price rise in March. Price rise and terrorism would be the issues on the top of the BJP's agenda during the budget session of Parliament, he said.
