Thiruvallur wins a thriller

Udhagamandalam: Thiruvallur and Ramanathapuram staved off stiff challenges to enter the semifinals of the 16th State youth football championship for the A.G. Subburaman Cup at the HADP Stadium here on Saturday.

Panchurajan and Louis Nishanth struck two goals apiece in Ramanathapuram's 4-3 win over Erode, while Thiyagaraj's 76th minute header saw Thiruvallur score a solitary goal win over host Nilgiris.

The results: Quarterfinals: Ramanathapuram 4 (Panchurajan 2, Louis Nishanth 2) bt Erode 3 (Vijayraghavendra 2, S. Loganathan); Thiruvallur 1 (Thiyagaraj) bt Nilgiris 0. — Sports Reporter
