MADIKERI: Former MLC A.K. Subbaiah on Saturday said an expert committee of the Centre was preparing to submit a report to the Supreme Court, stating that coffee plantations in Kodagu were forests. He blamed certain groups of environmentalists behind the move. Speaking to presspersons here, Mr. Subbaiah said if the Supreme Court endorsed the views of the committee, it would affect the lives of people in the district, forcing them to migrate. All land, except paddy fields, had been classified as forests by the committee, he alleged. Criticising the environment groups, Mr. Subbaiah said they did so with a view to garner foreign funds.
