Staff Reporter NEW DELHI: The Abilities Mela-2007, aimed at promoting public awareness about disability-related issues and showcasing products made by the disabled, was inaugurated at the Blind Relief Association campus here on Saturday. The third Abilities Mela in the Capital organised by the Blind Relief Association along with Business and Community Foundation seeks to promote inclusive opportunities for the disabled. The mela, inaugurated by National Youth Project Founder Director S. N. Subba Rao will facilitate interaction among disabled employees of different organisations.
Sensitisation
It is also aimed at sensitising employers, academic institutions and Government agencies about various disability-related issues. Disabled persons will also be made aware of self-employment opportunities and various products made by them including handicrafts and garments will be displayed at the mela. A panel discussion on "Universal Design and Inclusive Society" conducted by a non-government organisation, Samarthya, and cultural events like quiz and painting competitions are part of the event.
Many participants
More than 50 organisations working in the disability sector along with corporates, academic institutions, human resource consultancies and Government agencies are taking part in the mela that ends on Sunday.
