BERHAMPUR: Newly elected office-bearers of the Ganjam Bar Association plan to establish a computerised legal library on the Berhampur court premises for the benefit of lawyers of the Bar. As per the results of the election declared on Friday night, Sudhansu Panda was elected president of the association and Manoj Patnaik its secretary. Suryanarayan Patnaik was elected second secretary of the association.
High court bench
Mr. Panda defeated his nearest rival B.V.H. Sharma by a margin of seven votes. The outgoing president Sisir Padhi remained in the third position. Of the 1,463 members of the oldest association in the State, 729 members voted through secret ballot. Mr. Panda said he would intensify efforts for establishment of a High Court bench in Berhampur for the benefit of people of South Orissa. Mr. Patnaik said his aim would be to renovate the legal library with computerised cataloguing. He also plans to have a library of legal software at the library for easy reference. The new office-bearers chalked out their future plans and held discussions with the district judge of Ganjam and Gajapati. They wanted a post office on the court premises and favoured shifting of the Motor Accident Claim Tribunal (MACT) Court to the Berhampur District Judge Court premises.
