CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu Handicarafts Development Corporation (Poompuhar) has organised an Indian painting exhibition and will also provide marketing assistance to artists. The exhibition displays a collection of paintings from various states at its Anna Salai show room (open till February 24). Poompuhar chairman and managing director K.A. Mathewinaugurated the exhibition on Friday. Organisers say Indian paintings are considered artistic and decorate every home. This exclusive display features a range of paintings such as Tanjore, Kalamkari, Batik and oil paintings canvas paintings, gem stones, silk, jamki and glass paintings, re-creation of masters such as Ravi Varma, besides works on cloth, bamboo and palm leaves. Exclusive Tanjore paintings of deities such as Krishna, Vinayagar and Lakshmi are also available.
Special discount
A special discount of 10 per cent is offered on all paintings. Two disabled artists have also been given a chance to display their skills. The exhibition is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. (except Sundays).
