Sheila thanks Manmohan

NEW DELHI: Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit called on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Saturday to express her gratitude to the Central Government for clearing the new Master Plan for Delhi-2021 this past week.

Ms. Dikshit also thanked Dr. Manmohan Singh for facilitating the regularisation of more than 1,500 unauthorised colonies in the Capital.

Two killed in hit-and-run cases

NEW DELHI: Two persons, including a woman, were killed and two sustained serious injuries in two separate hit-and-run cases in the Capital in the past 24 hours.

According to the police, 61-year-old Ramsharan and his wife Shakuntala Devi (56) were killed when their scooter was hit by a speeding car on Mathura Road near New Friends Colony on Saturday afternoon. The victims, residents of Badarpur, died on the spot. A case has been registered against the car driver who is absconding.

In another case, Mayank, a software engineer from Gurgaon, and his driver, Dayaram, sustained serious injuries when their Indica car was hit by a Mercedes Benz on Amrita Shergil Marg late on Friday night. Both the occupants of the car fled.

Mayank has been admitted to the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences, while Dayaram was taken to Lohia Hospital. The Mercedes Benz is reportedly registered in the name of a Gurgaon-based company. A case of rash and negligent driving has been registered against the driver.

Child burnt to death

NEW DELHI: A three-year-old girl was burnt to death in a fire that broke out in a slum cluster at Bawana here on Friday night. Over a hundred jhuggis were gutted.

According to the Fire Service Department, the fire broke out around 11-45 p.m. Eighteen fire tenders took over two hours to douse the blaze. Five firemen were injured when an angry crowd resorted to stone-throwing alleging delay on the part of the fire department in arriving at the spot.

The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
