dated February 12, 1957: Offer to parties withdrawn

The Information and Broadcasting Minister, Dr. B.V. Keskar, announced in New Delhi on February 10 that it had been decided to withdraw the offer made by the Government to allow recognised all-India political parties broadcasting facilities for election purposes and to revert to the position of AIR keeping away from party politics. Dr. Keskar said the Government's offer had not received "favourable response." The three all-India political parties recognised by the Election Commission, other than the Congress, had, for various reasons, declined to avail themselves of this facility.
