NEW DELHI: A People For Animal's team conducted two raids near Jama Masjid here this past week rescuing two peacocks and a rare species of owl. Under the supervision of the Deputy Commissioner of Police Alok Kumar, a Special Staff team conducted the raids in the Walled City area at 1 a.m. and found Sadiq Khan and Iqbal Khan with two peacocks. Both the culprits fled from the spot. With their feathers cut and legs tied, the peacocks bought all the way from the Bharatpur Wildlife Sanctuary were in a critical condition. Trading, possessing and hunting of peacocks in illegal under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972. According to the police, Iqbal and Sadiq have been involved in the animal-trade for a long time. In another incident, the police rescued a big owl from Sarwar Hussain at Dargah Kali Mulla Sheikh Sarai.
