`Bid to lure voters'

NEW DELHI: Senior BJP leader Vijay Goel has charged the Delhi Government and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi of trying to lure voters by announcing various projects ahead of the civic body polls in the Capital. Alleging that the Government was toeing the World Bank line by announcing unfeasible projects, Mr. Goel said the State Government was flouting all norms and procedures. He has also written to Election Commissioner of Delhi S. P. Marwah asking him to restrain the State Government and immediately implement the model code of conduct.

DMRC's achievement

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has become a member of the Nova Benchmarking Group, the exclusive consortium of medium sized Metro systems from around the world. The membership of Nova will enable DMRC to rate itself against international benchmarks and pave the way for technology transfer for DMRC. The other 14 members of the group are Barcelona, Buenos Aires, Glasgow, Hong Kong, Lisbon, Milan, Montreal, Naples, Newcastle, Rio de Janeiro, Santiago de Chile, Singapore, Taipei and Toronto.

Plea to amend Act

NEW DELHI: The All-India Tax Advocates Forum has criticised the Delhi Government for not amending some draconian provisions in the Delhi Value Added Tax Act that are causing harassment of traders, particularly small businessmen. In a statement issued here, Forum president M. K. Gandhi has urged the Delhi Government and all legislators to ensure that legitimate concerns of traders were addressed by immediately bringing in suitable amendments in the DVAT Act. Mr. Gandhi said the provision of criminal prosecution apart from heavy penalties on defaulting traders was too harsh and should be done away with.
