Thrissur: A huge sound while digging a well with explosives triggered panic among the people of Padinjare Perumbilassery on Sunday afternoon. A few buildings within 1 km of the well shook mildly in the explosion. Local people said they thought an earthquake occurred. A section of the media reported an earthquake had occurred in and around Cherpu. The police said they were inundated with telephone calls enquiring about the incident. There were a lot of calls from non-resident Keralites who watched news about the "earthquake" on a few TV channels, the police said.
