HYDERABAD: Four persons of a marriage party were killed and nine others sustained grievous injuries after two lorries collided near Shahbad in Ranga Reddy district late on Saturday night. Such was the impact of the collision that the head of one of the victims was severed from the body and thrown about 100 feet away from the accident spot while the broken hand of another person could not be traced, police said. K. Peda Venkaiah (35), D. Anjaiah (35), P. Surender Reddy (22) and an Intermediate student M. Raju (16) suffered multiple fractures and died on the spot. Malappa (35), Srisailam (18) and Srinivas (30), who were seriously injured, are battling for life at Osmania General Hospital (OGH). Heart-rending scenes were witnessed at OGH, as none were present to donate blood to the victims. Then the policemen themselves donated blood. To add to the woes, the CT scan equipment was also not functioning at the hospital. Ranga Reddy District Superintendent of Police A. S. Gurappa said on Sunday that the two lorries, which were travelling at high speed, collided head-on and in the impact the passengers were thrown out of the vehicle. The victims, who belong to Rapole village of Parigi mandal in Ranga Reddy, were returning home after attending a marriage at Moinabad. Efforts are on to nab the driver with the help of vehicle documents that were seized from the spot, Mr. Gurappa said.
