Three Chennai students killed in collision

MANGLED REMAINS: The van which met with an accident near Sattur on Saturday.
VIRUDHUNAGAR:
Three college students of Chennai were killed when the van in which they were travelling collided with another van near Sattur late on Saturday night.
Of the 11 injured, who were admitted to Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai, the condition of three others is said to be critical.
The deceased were identified as A. Anand (22), R. Thirumalai (19) and Murugan (22), all inmates of an Adi Dravidar Hostel at Nandanam in Chennai, according to police sources.
The accident took place at around 11 p.m. on the Madurai-Tirunelveli National Highway at Pulvaipatti.
The crew and passengers of a TNSTC bus bound for Madurai rescued the injured trapped in the van.
"Delayed" response
Eyewitnesses said at least two persons could have been saved had timely medical treatment been provided. The highway patrol police vehicle arrived after all the 14 victims were removed from the scene.
