AIIMS doctors move court against quota
Justice Kailash Gambhir issued notice to AIIMS, Medical Council of India (MCI) and the Centre on a petition filed by the doctors -- Dharmesh L. Khatri, Prashant, Nidhi Moda and Pankaj Khandelwal -- and directed the Institute not to release the appointment letters to the selected candidates for reserved category till the pendency of this case. Justice Gambhir, however, declined to stay the Recruitment Policy, 2005 for the post of senior resident doctors in the super-speciality departments of the Institute. Filing the petition through their counsel M.L. Lahoty, the petitioners stated that they had qualified through the merit list for three-year-long tenure post of senior resident doctors. Three of them had figured in the various merit lists. However, the Institute in disregard to the Supreme Court guidelines, had decided to allot two seats out of three from Orthopaedic Department and three out of four in Gynaecology Department to the candidates from backward classes, the petitioners said.

New Delhi:
After taking suo motu cognisance for contempt of court against a practicing lawyer, the Delhi High Court has slapped a cost of Rs 15,000 on him for abusing the legal process by using forged documents to prepare a loan agreement between two parties in 1997.
Directing the lawyer D.C. Vohra to deposit the cost with the Advocates Welfare Fund, a Bench of Justice Manmohan Sarin and Justice S.L. Bhayana directed him to render free legal service for a period of six months.
"He shall also render pro bono service for a period of six months for at least two hours, twice a week at any of the Delhi Legal Service Centres under the supervision of the Member Secretary, Delhi Legal Services Authority," the Bench directed while accepting the unconditional apology tendered by Mr. Vohra.
