Strike hits normal life in Manipur
Iboyaima Laithangbam
IMPHAL:
Normal life in Manipur was disrupted on Sunday in response to the call of the people of Lamlai village for a 24-hour general strike to protest against the killing of a youth by police commandos on Thursday. Shops and business establishments were closed and commercial vehicles were off the road.
Representatives of the villagers called on Chief Minister Okram Ibobi on Saturday to hammer out an agreement. They demanded a judicial inquiry into the incident and punishment to the police commandos. Police superintendent of the Imphal East district K.Kailun told The Hindu that some insurgents of the People's Liberation Army had ambushed a police party at Lamlai.
