To urge the Government to hike monthly pension paid to aged persons

Puducherry: The women's wing of the Puducherry State committee of All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) will stage a demonstration in front of the Department of Women and Child Development here on February 21 to protest against the failure of the Government to increase the monthly assistance to aged persons and widows. Party MLA A. Anbalagan told newsmen here on Monday that the Chief Minister had announced that the monthly pension paid to the aged people would be increased from Rs. 400 to Rs. 500. There was also a promise recently that the amount would go up to Rs. 600. But the beneficiaries continued to get only Rs 400. The party would stage a demonstration against the move to acquire nearly 700 acres for airport project at Karaikal.
