Tributes to Rangarajan

CHENNAI: The former Judge of the Supreme Court, V.R. Krishna Iyer, and the former Vice-Chancellor of Madurai Kamaraj University, P.K. Ponnuswamy, have condoled the death of S. Rangarajan, Chairman of Kasturi and Sons Limited, proprietors of The Hindu group of publications.

In a communication to N. Ram, Editor-in-Chief of The Hindu , Mr. Krishna Iyer said: "As a humble admirer and daily reader of The Hindu , I will remember Rangarajan as a builder of India's foremost newspaper."

"He is physically no more but his spirit will guide the progressive march and dynamic development of The Hindu ."

Legendary life

Mr. Ponnuswamy said Rangarajan lived a legendary life. In a message, the Consulate-General of the Federal Republic of Germany said: "Consul-General Heinz Kopp, who is presently out of Chennai, and all the members of the Consulate-General send our sincere condolences... "

"A loss to readers"

Secretary of the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee S.V.Ramani said that Rangarajan's death was a loss to millions of readers of The Hindu , especially to those who enjoyed the sports pages. "Mr. Rangarajan's contribution in building and moulding the Kennel Club of India will always be remembered," said K.S. Nagraj Setty of Agrani Kennels.
