Chandigarh: Maratha Warriors proved too good for Bangalore Lions winning 3-1 in its first encounter of the second leg of the Premier Hockey League here on Monday. Maratha Warriors pumped in the first goal in the 19th minute when Shivender Singh managed to dodge goalkeeper Bharat Chetri. Rehan Butt of Bangalore Lions missed an easy chance to score when he failed to trap a cross from teammate Hari Prasad, which only needed to be deflected in. Towards the end of the first half, drag-flicker Imran Warsi of Maratha Warriors scored off a penalty corner to make it 2-0. Butt made some amends for his earlier mistake and trapped and deflected a long pass to Hari Prasad, who gave Bangalore Lions its solitary goal in the seventh minute of the second-half. However, Bangalore Lions had some more misery coming as Hardeep Singh deflected an on-the-rise pass and managed to deflect it inside the goalpost. Under pressure, the defending champion was desperately looking for a goal in the second half and Butt made some amends for his mistake earlier on and trapped and deflected a long pass to Hari Prasad, who then gave his team its solitary goal in the seventh minute of the second-half. However, Bangalore Lions, which looked in disarray almost throughout the match, had some more misery coming its way when Hardeep Singh deflected an on-the-rise pass and managed to deflect it inside the goalpost. Bangalore Lions also failed to capitalise on the four penalty corners that came its way, while Maratha Warriors converted one of the five penalty corners it earned. After the match, Bangalore Lions stands fourth with nine points, while Maratha Warriors moved to the third spot with 10 points. PTI
