KOZHIKODE: UDF workers held a `road-roko' agitation at various places in all Assembly constituencies in the district as part of the UDF-sponsored State-wide stir against spiralling prices of essential items on Monday. The road blockade began at 11 a.m. District Congress Committee (DCC) president K.C. Abu inaugurated the blockade at the Palayam Junction in the city. The former DCC president M. Veerankutty, IUML leader T.P.M.Zaheer and Youth Congress State president K.P. Anilkumar spoke. The police diverted the traffic from Manchira. A large posse of police personnel was present at the junction where the blockade was held. U. Rajeevan, DCC vice-president, inaugurated the road blockade at Koilandy. IUML district secretary P.K. Kunhammad inaugurated the blockade at the old bus stand road in Vadakara. In the neighbouring Wayanad district, the former health minister K.K. Ramachandran inaugurated the blockade in Kalpetta. DCC secretary Poker Haji and Karshaka Congress district president Joshi Cyriac were among those who participated. KPCC secretary K.C.Rosakutty inagurated the blockade at Sulthan Bathery. V.P.V.Moosa, former MLA inaugurated the blockade at Mananthavady.
