JOINING HANDS: Steel and Mines Secretary L. N. Gupta at the Productivity Day celebration in Bhubaneswar on Monday.
BHUBANESWAR: Industry managers on Monday called for augmentation of productivity in all spheres to help country's economy grow at a faster rate. At a State-level seminar organised to mark the Productivity Day, State Steel and Mines Secretary L. N. Gupta said, "we are encouraging Government as well as private agencies to enhance their productivity. The Government should not be viewed as a hindrance to achieving higher productivity." He said the State Government was regularly seeking feedback from private organisations to instil competitiveness at workplace. The event was organised by National Productivity Council and Balasore Alloys Limited in association with the Orissa State Productivity Council. Chief Executive Officer of Dhamra Port Company Limited Santosh Kumar Mohapatra said, "we have total lack of dignity towards labour. The society as a whole has a bad habit of segregating labour of similar nature into different categories."
Resources
Mr. Mohapatra said, "the country has a vast coastal stretch which is a highly neglected sector. Moreover, the mineral resources have not been optimally utilised. There should be concerted efforts to enhance our productivity as the country has the knowledge power to make it happen." Orissa State Productivity Council President Ajit Mohapatra stressed the need for drawing inspiration from endeavours in different countries such as Japan, South Korea and China as they managed to increase the productivity by adopting different models of management. Joint Managing Director of Balasore Alloys Limited R K Jena spoke on the occasion.
