Manoj stars in CMS College's win

KOCHI : K.X. Manoj's allround performance (three for 11 and 53) helped Kottayam's CMS College drub Sacred Heart (Thevara) by nine wickets in the league phase of the Mahatma Gandhi University inter-zone cricket championship at the St. Paul's College Ground, Kalamassery, on Monday.

In another match, Maharaja's College defeated St. Paul's by three wickets

The scores: St. Paul's, Kalamassery 128 in 24 overs lost to Maharajas's, Ernakulam 129 for seven in 24 overs (Vimal Raj 42).

Sacred Heart, Thevara 93 in 21. overs lost to CMS, Kottayam 94 for one in 9.2 overs (K.X. Manoj 53).

Thiruvananthapuram wins

Host Thiruvananthapuram edged out Thrissur 1-0 to retain the title in the 36th State junior hockey championship at the G.V. Raja Sports School in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday.

Kiran Kumar scored the match-winner in the 10th minute. Kannur overcame Kollam by a solitary goal to finish third. P.C. Fidil scored in the 27th minute. The Kearla Hockey Association felicitated Sreedhar Shenoy who retired as the Kerala Sports Council coach. Vishu Prasad of Kollam was chosen the promising player of the tournament.

Murugan CC `B', Titanium post wins

Titanium and Murugan CC `B' recorded wins in the Canara Bank-TDCA `D' division cricket league at Thiruvananthapuram here on Monday. Titanium defeated VSSC by four wickets while Murugan CC `B' scored a win over Little Masters CC.

The scores: VSSC 150 for nine in 30 overs (Shinu five for 32) lost to Titanium 151 for six in 24.3 overs; Little Masters CC 139 in 27 overs (Jayakanth four for 48) lost to Murugan CC `B' 140 for six in 26.2 overs (Vinod 41).
