Samaresh, Tejaswani set new marks

GUWAHATI: Samaresh Jung (Himachal Pradesh) and Tejaswani Sawant (Maharashtra) were the star performers on the second day of the shooting competitions of the 33rd National Games on Monday.

The two quite expectedly did win the men's 25m standard pistol and women's 10m air rifle gold medals, but what had the arc lights firmly trained on them were the new Games record that each created in their respective events.

Jung had a total of 579 points as he erased Jaspal Rana's meet mark of 578 set in Imphal in 1999, while Tejaswani, as she led a Maharashtra sweep, bettered Anjali Vedpathak's existing record of 500.50 with a new mark of 502.9 points.
