CHANDIGARH: Senior officials of the Chandigarh Administration on Monday assessed the damage caused by continuous rain and stormy winds that lashed the City Beautiful during the last 48 hours. The meeting was attended by Finance Secretary S.K. Sandhu, Municipal Commissioner P.S. Aujla and Chief Engineer V.K. Bhardwaj. Power supply in Sectors 12, 20, 41, 43, 47, Manimajra, Subhash Colony and Raipur Kalan was hampered due to falling of tree branches on overhead transmission lines, breaking of poles, snapping of conductors, damage to distribution transformers due to lightning and failure of cable joints. Mr. Bhardwaj said 336 complaints of power failure were registered during the last two days. He claimed that power supply had been restored. Mr. Sandhu directed that the potholes be repaired by February 14 and an additional power line be provided to the water works in Manimajra before April. The Engineering Department was also asked to provide necessary road gullies at suitable points to prevent flooding.
