Bangalore: The State has suffered an estimated production loss of Rs. 500 crore because of the bandh on Monday. R.C. Purohit, president of the Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry, told The Hindu that this included losses to trades of various kinds and manufacturing units. "Transactions in Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee yards alone amount to Rs. 2 crore," he said. Of this, the losses for those in Bangalore alone would be over Rs. 300 crore.

Sources in the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) said the corporation had suffered losses of Rs. 10 crore on account of the bandh. Of the fleet of 16,900 buses, only 900 were run, especially in coastal Karnataka.

The Federation of Southern States Goods Vehicles Owners Associations puts the losses in the past week at over Rs. 100 crore. Association general secretary A.P. Shanmuga Sundaram said this was besides the losses merchants and farmers had suffered because perishable commodities had not been transported to Kerala and Tamil Nadu for a week.
