Good news, says Pakistan
Nirupama Subramanian
ISLAMABAD:
Pakistan on Monday claimed victory in the Baglihar dam dispute with India, saying the neutral expert's verdict accepted its contention that the project design violated the Indus Waters Treaty. It urged India to implement the expert's recommendations.
Pakistan also said it was examining "legal options" on the ruling in favour of India on the location of the dam's gated spillways.
"The neutral expert has said the design of the project is in violation of the treaty. This is good news for Pakistan today," said Liaquat Ali Jatoi, Minister for Water and Power Resources, at a press meet.
