HYDERABAD: The historic Secunderabad Clock Tower, that got back its past glory after decades of neglect, is once again in bad state.

Two out of the four clocks are not functioning for the past one week. Not to forget, it was the official logo for the 200-year celebrations of Secunderabad, organised on a grand note in June last year. It was also declared as a heritage structure in twin cities.

It never fails to catch the eye of anyone visiting the Monda market for shopping and those going to the railway station. The MCH took up restoration work in 2002 at a cost of Rs.1 crore and added several attractive features, including fountains and landscape gardens to make it a popular spot in Secunderabad. It was subsequently inaugurated in March 2006. But clocks with Roman numerals have become motionless.

This popular edifice was developed on 10 acres in 1860. It served as a monument to the progress achieved by the British officers in Secunderabad Cantonment. In those days, the park used to attract high profile British Resident Officers and prominent persons in Nizam's administration.

When contacted, Assistant Director (Horticulture) O. Laxman Rao said clocks were removed due to some technical problem. "We will try to install them within two days," he said.
