CRATERS ON ROAD?: The sewage on Jeevanandhem Road at Kasipalayam Municipality. - Photo: M. Govarthan
ERODE: Residents of Jeevanandhen road within Kasipalayam Grade Three Municipality have to wade through sewage. The road links Karur road and Moolapalayam main road. Sakthivel, a resident, said: "Just a week before the local body election nomination, Kasipalayam municipality began constructing a drainage on the road. Suddenly the contractor stopped the work. It is more than four months since that and nothing has been done. Now the sewage water is flowing on the road." Because of the sewage, the road has started to erode. There are five or six craters on the road. Motorcycle riders have to push their vehicles for some distance because of the craters and the sewage. Mosquitoes have started breeding owing to the sewage.
Cost of materials
Kasipalayam Municipal officials said owing to the increase in cost of materials some contractors were reluctant to do the work. Officials have promised the residents that steps would be taken to repair the road.
