Rupee declines further against $

MUMBAI: The rupee depreciated further against the U.S. currency to close at 44.2050/2100 on firm dollar overseas amid sustained bearishness in equity markets. Suspected intervention of RBI proved to be the major dampening factorfor the rupee weakness.

In a quiet trading at the interbank foreign exchange market, the Indian unit opened weak at 44.1850/1950 a dollar against overnight close of 44.16/17 a dollar and dipped further to settle at 44.2050/2100 a dollar. It moved in a narrow range of 44.15 and 44.21.
