HASSAN: Superstition that if a hen is sacrificed, their only son would live longer made a large number of people to resort to mass killing of hens in Arkalagud taluk in Hassan district. Three days ago, a rumour spread in Arkalagud and surrounding villages that if a couple who had only one child, that too a son, sacrificed two hens to Goddess Doddamma, the child would live longer. About 70 hens were sacrificed behind the temple. This had created a foul smell in the street.
