GULBARGA: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has said that the dispute over sharing of Cauvery water among Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and other riparian States such as Kerala and Puducherry could be solved amicably only through discussions involving farmers of the region. Politburo member of the CPI (M), K. Varadharajan, who is president of the All-India Kisan Sabha (AIKS), told presspersons here on Tuesday that the politicisation of the issue would not help in finding a solution. He said the CPI (M) was of the view that with both Karnataka and Tamil Nadu having grievances about the verdict of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal, the best way to find a solution would be to iron out the differences and disputes through mutual discussions among the riparian States. Mr. Varadharajan said the Cauvery basin farmers should be actively involved in the discussions initiated by the State Governments and pointed out that an effort had been made earlier by the Cauvery basin farmers of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu to find a solution to share the available water, but unfortunately they did not receive Government support .
