Ready to work with West Bengal: Prodi

EXPANDING MARKET BASE: Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi with West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee at a business meet in Kolkata on Tuesday.

KOLKATA: Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi said here on Tuesday that his Government was ready to work with West Bengal in specific areas such as agro-business, leather, mechanical and engineering segments.

These were among the sectors identified during a private meeting that Mr. Prodi had with West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee just before they shared the dais for addressing an economic forum on Indo-Italian Synergy: destination West Bengal.

Trade commission

Mr. Prodi also announced the setting up of an Italian Trade Commission in Kolkata within this year.

The two-day programme organised by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), saw the signing of three MoUs between the two countries.
