Notable among these was the foundation laying ceremony of the Rs. 1,685 crore Rail Coach Factory at Lalganj, at which Railway Minister Lalu Prasad was present.

One more track

Mr. Prasad announced the development of a rail corridor encompassing all the four corners of the country. Addressing a public meeting to mark the foundation laying ceremony at Baiswara Inter College, Lalganj, Ms. Gandhi said that since the formation of the UPA Government, the country had entered a new phase of development. She said all sections stood to benefit from Central schemes such as the Rural Employment Guarantee Programme, the Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission and the Rajiv Gandhi Rural Electrification Programme.

Praise for Lalu

Ms. Gandhi exuded confidence at the performance of the UPA Government, and lauded the performance of the Railway Ministry under the stewardship of Mr. Prasad. Stating that the Rail Coach Factory was another gift to the people of Uttar Pradesh, Ms. Gandhi said it would create new employment opportunities for the people of Rae Bareli, Amethi and other parts of the State. Mr. Prasad attacked the Mulayam Singh Yadav Government for the poor law and order situation. Noting that Assembly elections were round the corner, Mr. Prasad exhorted the people to overthrow the Samajwadi Party Government.

He said the people, even those belonging to foreign countries, were astonished at the turnaround achieved by the Railways and the Rs. 13,000 crore profit shown.

Amethi MP Rahul Gandhi .
