BJP's hartal in Thrissur total

THRISSUR: A hartal called by the Bharatiya Janata Party, Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh following the death of the BMS leader V. K. Shaju was total in the district on Tuesday.

V. K. Shaju, 36, joint secretary of the Kodakara unit of the BMS, was found with severe assault injuries at the Kallettumkara Kerala Feeds on Monday. Shaju died around 9.30 a.m. on Monday. According to the police, Shaju was assaulted by suspected Communist Party of India (Marxist) workers.

Shops and business establishments remained closed. Only two-wheelers were seen on the road. Roads in Irinjalakuda, Mala, Chalakudy and Kodakara were nearly deserted in the morning.
