Staff Correspondent

HUBLI: A colourful procession was taken out as part of the installation of social reformer Basavanna's statue, here on Sunday.

Scores of women carried "poorna kumbha" during the procession held to carry the statue to the installation venue.

The bronze statue, measuring 13.4 ft., was carved by an artist from Nasik in Maharashtra and brought to Moorusavir Math in Hubli on Saturday. It will be installed at Keshwapur on February 17.

Basavalinga Swamiji of Rudrakshi Math led the procession along with Shivalinga Swamiji of Bijakal. Before flagging off the procession at Moorusavi Math, Revenue Minister Jagadish Shettar offered pooja in front of Basavanna's statue. The swamijis and the Minister spoke on the social reforms advocated by Basavanna.

The procession that started from Mooursavir Math concluded at Sri Jagajyoti Basaveshwara Peetha in Keshwapur.
