KOZHIKODE: The Video-Audio Distributors Coordination committee has decided to organise protest programmes to demand the reopening of video libraries that have been closed down since the last two months. The committee would also highlight the plight of more than one-lakh families who had been financially affected through the closure. The coordination committee was set up in consultation with the Kerala Vyapari Vyavasayi Ekopana Samithy here recently. The committee would also resist the imposing of laws that cannot be implemented effectively, besides take to legal recourse if the need arose. As a preliminary step to the protest planned, day-long mass dharna would be held in front of the District Library here on February 14. Video-audio library owners and their family members would participate in the dharna to be inaugurated by T. Nasiruddin, State president, KVVES. The committee wanted a long-term solution to sort out the issue now facing those who had been in the video distribution field since the last 25 years. It was pointed out that video library owners and those associated with the video-marketing segment belong to the educated unemployed. The committee wanted a licensing system so that this segment could carry on the vocation of earning a livelihood with a sense of dignity. The distributors said they were prepared to abide by the rules if the licensing system was introduced.
