Kozhikode
P.K. Ajith Kumar
Kozhikode: "If music be the food of love, play on," said Orsino in Shakespeare's Twelfth Night. So which love song would you love to play on your music system on this Valentine's Day? The choice of actor Mukesh is Hrudaya sarassile pranayapushpame... from the film Padunna Puzha. "I always loved the song and I loved it even more after its author Sreekumaran Thampi told me about the circumstances in which he wrote that song." For director and scriptwriter Ranjan Pramod there are three love songs close to his heart. "I find the Tamil song Enmel vizhuntha mazhaithuliye... from the film Maymatham incredibly romantic," he says. "It is a beautiful work by the Vairamuthu-A.R. Rahman duo and sung brilliantly by Jayachandran and Chitra. I also love Saradindu malardeepa... (Ulkadal) and Jagjit Singh's Tum Itna Jo muskura rahi ho... (Arth)." For Roma, who made a remarkable debut in the lead role in Notebook, the favourite love song is Kabhi kabhi mere dil mein... from Kabhi Kabhi. "The lines are so romantic," she says. Director Sathyan Anthikad's eternal favourite is Swarna chamaram... (Yakshi). "I was attracted to the song by the usage of `enkil' (if) in that song," says the man who himself wrote the song Oru nimisham tharoo... (Sindooram). For the playback singer Manjari, a song from Ninamaninja Kalpadukal Padinjare manathulla... is on top of her personal chart of romantic songs. "I also like Tum paas aaye... (Kuch Kuch Hota Hai) and Pehla nasha... (Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar)," she adds. Actor Sudheesh is in love with the song Pinneyum pinneyum... (Krishnagudiyile Oru Pranaya Kalathu) while singer M.G. Sreekumar loves to hum Mizhiyoram... (Manjil Virinja Pookkal) and Kilukil pambaram... (Kilukkam). And there are many other love songs you could sing to your loved one today. Arikil neeyundayirunnenkil... (Neeyetra Dhanya) or Mere mehboob tujhe... (Mere Mehboob), for instance. After all, "Give me excess of it," Orsino had demanded the musicians.
