HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy on Tuesday paid tributes to former Chief Minister Damodaram Sanjivaiah on the eve of his 86th birth anniversary.

Gold shoe for goddess

KURNOOL: Two devotees donated gold shoes for Sri Bramarambhika Devi and gold facial mask for Sri Mallikarjuna Swamy at Srisailam on Tuesday.

P.R.K. Rao from Chennai presented the shoes weighing 400 grams and valued at Rs. 4.08 lakhs and the gold-coated mask made of 380-gram gold at a function. The mask was donated by Ish Kumar Agarwal of Hyderabad.— Special Correspondent

Ryots electrocuted

KADAPA: Two farmers were electrocuted in separate incidents in Kadapa district on Tuesday. Both V. Srinivasulu (40) of Surabhi Agraharam in Chakrayapet mandal and Madanmohan of A. Kuravapalle village in Ramapuram mandal were electrocuted when they stepped on live electric wires in their fields.— Staff Reporter

Sarpanch murdered

KADAPA: Kadapa DCC joint secretary and sarpanch of Yeramalapalle in Veerapunayunipalle mandal Chandra Reddy (40) was hacked to death by rivals near Veerapuyanunipalle bus stand on Monday. The police registered a case against Chandrasekhar Reddy, unsuccessful sarpanch contestant in last polls, his son Rushikesava Reddy and their four accompliceswho were at large.— Staff Reporter

`Killer' shot dead

ANANTAPUR: A suspected hired killer was allegedly shot dead by special party police in Tadipatri bus stand on Tuesday night. His two accomplices escaped. Nagabhushanam of Kadiri and his two accomplices were waiting at the bus stand when the police arrived. Nagabhushanam, 35, allegedly opened fire on the police party and the police retaliated killing him on the spot. One onlooker (probably a passenger) also received splint injuries in the incident. — Staff Reporter

MPTCs' meet

HYDERABAD: Andhra Pradesh MPTCs' Association will meet here on February 16 to discuss among other things the issue of formal orders on demands conceded by the Government and finalise strategy of members of Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituencies in the ensuing Legislative Council elections. — Special Correspondent

Court order hailed

HYDERABAD: Jana Vignana Vedika on Tuesday welcomed Andhra Pradesh High Court's ruling on preventing dharnas and road blockades during protests. In a statement, V. TIRUPATI: Students in the SV University belonging to the All-India Students Federation have on Monday boycotted classes and burnt the effigy of Chief Minister Y.S. NANDYAL: Intiaz Ahmed, principal of National College at Nandyal, was allegedly assaulted by Abdulla and Srinivasa Reddy to obtain his signatures on a blank paper. The dispute was in connection with an open site in the town. Special Correspondent

Body of former MLA laid to rest

TIRUPATI: The mortal remains of Tirupati's former MLA (TDP), Kaththula Shyamala (69), was on Tuesday laid to rest. A practising gynaecologist, she was given the party ticket by TDP founder N.T. Rama Rao, after he vacated the Tirupati and Gudivada seats retaining his Hindupur seat in his maiden election after he formed the TDP in 1983. She died on Monday in the TTD's SVIMS Hospital. Cotton farmer commits suicide

VIZIANAGARAM: Pathakamuri Seethayya, 45, a cotton grower of Rajyalakshmipuram in Komarada mandal, committed suicide by consuming pesticide at his home on Sunday night. Crop loss and debts were said to be the reason for the extreme step.

Blood donated

Kakinada: Some 70 persons donated blood at the free camp organised by the Chiranjivi Voluntary Blood Donation Club and ITC aqua division in Guddivani Toomu area in Thallarevu on Tuesday.

Doctors of Rotary Blood Bank extended cooperation by receiving the blood and Sri Kiran Eye Institute screened over one hundred patients at the free camp.
