HYDERABAD: City Congress MLAs P. Janardhan Reddy and M. Sashidhar Reddy confronted Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy at the Congress Legislature Party meeting here on Tuesday with contentious issues they had been highlighting for some time. When the Chief Minister was about to leave the meeting hall after the deliberations lasting for nearly an hour, the MLAs insisted on his audience for the issues since the party would face a debacle at the hustings in case the decisions taken by the Government went against the people's interest in the long run. Voicing protest against the decision to locate the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Medak instead of Adilabad, they said there was no need to change the location when the decision was left entirely to the State Government. They reportedly argued that IITs at Roorkee and Kharagpur were not located near the State capitals and yet there was no problem. Likewise, there was no clear-cut stand on the completion of phase III of the project for supply of Krishna water to the Twin Cities, they said. Preferring Godavari waters to Krishna was not advisable as it would lead to unnecessary financial burden. They regretted that the Governor's speech made no mention on the Krishna project leading to the apprehensions that Krishna Phase-III would be abandoned midway. The Congress MLAs insisted that they were not raising these issues to put the Chief Minister in a spot but because of genuine concern for the party's well-being. Pothireddipadu Head Regulator issue was also a major concern for Telangana region and unless a convincing argument was placed before people, they might reject the party in future elections, they warned. Dr. Rajasekhara Reddy reportedly explained the rationale behind the decision to locate the IIT near Hyderabad, and cited the capital's advantage of road, rail and air connectivity.
