Rare photos of State's history displayed at exhibition

    KEEN EYE: S.K. Saidapur, Vice-Chancellor of Karnatak University, at the photography exhibition in Dharwad on Tuesday.

    DHARWAD: A five-day photography exhibition on "Suvarna Karnataka" began here at the Dharwad Art Gallery on Tuesday.

    Vice-Chancellor of Karnataka University, Dharwad inaugurated the exhibition and then viewed the exhibits on display including sculptures. Speaking on the occasion, the vice-chancellor said the exhibition provided a glimpse into the history of five decades of the State's development.

    Highlights

    The exhibition comprises of rare photographs of the various stages in the development of the state. Naming of Karnataka, construction of Vidhana Soudha, inauguration of Sharavati Power Generation Plant, implementation of Land Reforms Act and inauguration of Bangalore Dairy by late Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, are few of the rare photographs displayed in the exhibition.

    Photographs of all the Chief Ministers of Karnataka, various developmental projects, SAARC convention in Bangalore, national games in Bangalore are also on display.

    Statues

    Along with the photographs of Jnanpith Award winners the beautifully carved wooden statues of those writers are also the centre of attraction at the exhibition.

    Several artists including Arya Acharya, Madhu Desai, writer Mohan Nagammanavar, tahsildar Vinayak Joshi, principal of Art School Datanal, Deputy Director of Public Instruction V.M. Patil, Samir Joshi and others participated in the inauguration. Senior assistant director of the State Information Centre P.S. Hiremath welcomed the gathering. Senior assistant director P.S. Parvati proposed a vote of thanks.

    The exhibition is open to general public till February 17 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
