BARSANA : Over 2,700 patients were screened and 700 short-listed for surgery at the annual free eye camp organised by Bhaktivedanta Hospital in the remote village of Barsana in Uttar Pradesh over the weekend. "We have been working in this sector since 1992 and we do everything to bring back the smiles on the faces of people who need quality eye care,'' said Dr. Shanbhag, chief camp co-ordinator who has been associated with the project since its inception. The hospital is now in the process of acquiring land to build a full-fledged medical centre. The eye hospital will have a mobile clinic going from village to village providing basic services at the patient's doorsteps. Ophthalmologist Dr. Ranjit Wagle said: "During this camp we screened a large number of patients. About 30 children who need specialised care will be taken to Bhaktivedanta Hospital, Mumbai, for further treatment.'' The annual eye camp attracts thousands of villagers from not only Barsana but also Bharatpur, Madhavpur, Aligarh and parts of Rajasthan. And not just patients, the camp has also attracted doctors from far-off lands like the US and Britain to serve at the camp. In addition to eye care, the patients also avail of a free dental check-up.
