KADAPA: Eleven municipal employees launched a three-day relay hunger strike before the Kadapa Municipal Corporation office on Tuesday on a 47-point charter of demands, including payment of salary arrears to civic staff, minimum wages to contractual staff, provident fund and ESI facilities. The Municipal Corporation employees are yet to be paid salary for the last three months and those in Putlampalle, Palempalle and Ramarajupalle divisions have not been paid salary for the last nine months, Andhra Pradesh Municipal Workers and Employees Union district president and CITU leader N. Ravisankar Reddy said. Salaries should be disbursed through the treasury to ensure prompt payment, he demanded. Contractual staff should be paid salary of Rs. 3,900 on a par with those recruited by outsourcing, he demanded. Provident fund and ESI facilities were denied in the Municipal Corporation and Pulivendula, Jammalamadugu and Badvel Municipalities, he lamented. Other demands included weekly offs, supply of uniform, shoes, towels, soap and oil. He also alleged that municipal DEs and AEs were harassing contractual staff.
