Irrigation projects: WB may extend aid

MAHABUBNAGAR: World Bank Executive Director (India) Dhanendra Kumar has said that if the State Government seeks financial assistance for completion of its ongoing irrigation projects, it would look into it.

Speaking to mediapersons at Makthal mandal office after visiting Bheema phase-1 lift irrigation project at Panchadevpadu village, Mr. Dhanendra Kumar said that he could not recommend for the assistance on his own. To a query, he said that he was impressed by the functioning of self-help groups in State.Interacting with members of SHGs, he expressed happiness to learn from the members that their standard of living had taken a dramatic change after they took up self- employment schemes.

When the World Bank ED said that poverty could be eliminated only when their children were given good education, the SHG members said that they were spending part of their earnings on education of their children. Earlier, Mr. Dhanendra kumar visited the tunnel constructed as a part of Bheema project and a pump house. He also visited the exhibition at the project site where photographs of four ongoing project works were displayed. Irrigation
