JAIPUR: Tasks relating to conservation of water, recharge of ground water and optimum use of water for irrigation are proposed to be taken up in a big way shortly in the four districts of Bharatpur division in Rajasthan. The Administration will also conduct physical verification of water harvesting structures constructed in rural areas.

Bharatpur Divisional Commissioner P.K. Goyal and senior officers of Bharatpur, Dholpur, Sawai Madhopur and Karauli districts discussed the measures for water conservation before the onset of summer at a meeting in Bharatpur on Monday. Mr. Goyal said the farmers should be encouraged to grow crops consuming less water and adopt new techniques for irrigation.

Mr. Goyal said the rooftop water harvesting structures would be built on priority in all Government buildings and schools, while various Government departments would establish coordination with each other for implementing the water conservation schemes.

The Divisional Commissioner said the Administration would start preparations for making arrangements for adequate supply of drinking water during summer and identify the works to be launched in various areas. He noted that sowing of wheat and mustard had been reported at 98 and 83 per cent, respectively, in the division this year. Dholpur Collector Ashutosh Gupta, Sawai Madhopur Collector Debashish Prushti, acting Collector of Bharatpur, R.K. Tripathi, and the Chief Executive Officer of Karauli Zila Parishad provided details of the water conservation works completed in their respective districts.
