MANGALORE: The sleuths of District Crime Intelligence Bureau (DCIB)recovered an ancient bronze idol of a deity and arrested two persons in this connection at Urlandi in Kasaba village of Puttur taluk on Tuesday. According to the police, the accused were reportedly trying to solicit a prospective buyer for the idol, weighing 80 kg and valued at Rs. 2.5 lakh. The accused have been identified as Wilfred D'Souza of Urlandi and Muhammad Ali of Killuru village in Belthangady taluk, the police said. B. Dayananda, Superintendent of Police, said that the DCIB team was on the look out for two other accused who were reportedly involved in this attempt to sell the idol.
Vandalised
A group seven persons reportedly vandalised South Indian Restaurant at Attavar here on Monday night and assaulted one person. According to a complaint lodged by Sheikh Mohammad Hanief, a resident of Kotekar, with Mangalore South (Pandeshwar) police, the group allegedly damaged the hotel property and assaulted Mushtaq, the cashier. The loss has been estimated at about Rs. 1 lakh. Senior police officials said that Mushtaq's brother Aziz was one of the accused in Sukhananda Shetty murder case. Aziz, who is judicial custody, had been charged with abetting the main accused in the case monetarily, the police said. Investigations were on, the police said. A group of four persons reportedly assaulted Yunus, a resident of Balmatta, on the premises of a private hospital at Kankanady here on Monday night. Police said Yunus, working as a security guard, was assaulted over personal reasons. Mangalore South police have registered a case.
