CAUGHT UNAWARES: The brief spell of rain on Tuesday was enough to turn the Siddhartha Public School road in the city into a sheet of water. Photo: Raju. V
VIJAYAWADA: Whether you are on your way to office or school, getting caught in a downpour can be fantastic! If you're a bit on the uptight side, you may get grumpy and angry. But if you know the art of seizing the moment, you will be able to laugh at yourself, throw your hands out and taste the amazing drops that nature bestows on you to enjoy the magic of the moment. The brief but heavy bout of downpour that lashed the city on Tuesday drew mixed reactions. As the drizzle began to turn into hard, cold bouts of rain, people ran helter-skelter in search of a cover. Finding refuge under whatever they could manage to escape the brunt of the most hostile downpour, some cursed the untimely aggressive spell, while others drank in every sensation around. The sound of water hitting the water already collected in tiny puddles, the rumble of the vehicles passing by and the luscious scent of damp loam brought the glint back in the eyes of some people. There were others who stopped and even tried to rush back, because they just couldn't get any wetter. The downpour, as usual, made the life of pedestrians and vehicle-users at places like Moghalrajapuram miserable. There was heavy water logging on Pinnamaneni Polyclinic Road and Siddhartha Public School road, where side drains could not take the rainwater.
Local phenomenon
Met officials described the showers as a local phenomenon. "We have recorded only a few millimetres of rain along the coast, which are actually localised thundershowers," said Hyderabad-based Director of the Meteorological Department Satya Kumar, when reached over telephone. Attributing the bouts to moisture incursion due to local heating conditions along the coast, the meteorological official said isolated showers were expected to continue till Thursday.
