Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Additional District and Sessions Judge Fast Track Court-I Y. Thajudeen Koya on Tuesday sentenced three Srilankan nationals to rigorous imprisonment for 13 years and 10 years and a fine of rupees one lakh each after they were found guilty of possessing 9.4 kg of heroin in April 2005.

In case of default of payment of the fine amount, the convicts have to undergo rigorous imprisonment for two more years.

The prosecution case was that Subas Chandrabose alias Subash, Kuberan and Shanthi were arrested by the officers of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Regional Intelligence Unit, from the KSRTC bus stand in Thampanoor with three packets of heroin concealed inside their handbags.

The heroin was meant for illegal export to Srilanka. As a follow up action, the NCB also arrested two more conspirators, Udaya and Shivaraja, also hailing from Srilanka.
