HOPEFULS: Aspirants for the Gladrags Mega Model and Manhunt Contest-2007 pose at a press conference in Bangalore on Tuesday. Photo: V. Sreenivasa Murthy
Bangalore: Wannabe models should have a back-up career as the glamour industry cannot be expected to give them staying power. This advice came from none other than someone with long innings in the business, Maureen Wadia. The elegant lady, the driving force behind the Gladrags Mega Model and Manhunt Contest, said young people should concentrate on academics and walk the ramp only during weekends. Citing instances of those who had reached the apogee in both the fashion and film industries only to be forgotten when new talent appeared, she said it was tough to get work once one is past one's prime, something that is decided by the industry. Ms. Wadia was in the city on Tuesday in connection with the South Zone selections for the Gladrags Mega Model and Manhunt Contest 2007. This unisex contest is one of the few premier ones to allow walk-ins.
