`Most of Nithari victims were girls'

NEW DELHI: An anatomical study of the skeletal remains recovered from a drain outside the Noida residence of Moninder Singh, prime accused in the Nithari killings case in Noida, has indicated that most of the victims were girls.

While segregating the skeletal remains, it is learnt that the forensic scientists at the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) here came across the remains of 11 girls, four boys and four women.

Van catches fire

NEW DELHI: A parked Maruti van caught fire near Dada Dev Mela Ground at Palam here on Tuesday. No one was injured.

According to the police, Sunny Solanki, a resident of Palam, had parked his vehicle by the roadside as a marriage procession had blocked the way. While he waited for the procession to pass, the vehicle suddenly caught fire. A fire tender had to be called to put out the blaze.

The police suspect that a spark in the electric wires caused the fire.

Tihar inmate dies

NEW DELHI: A 28-year-old inmate of Tihar Central Jail undergoing de-addiction programme died in Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Hospital here on Tuesday.

According to the police, Naqibullah, an Afghan national, was found unconscious in his cell on Monday and was taken to the jail hospital from where he was referred to DDU. He died in the morning.

Naqibullah was facing trial in a drug-peddling case registered at the Tughlaq Road police station. The cause of the death was not immediately known, the police said.

Alleged criminals held

NEW DELHI: Four young men who allegedly committed robberies in buses were arrested at Sarai Kale Khan in South Delhi on Monday. The police claim to have recovered knives from their possession.

Acting on a tip-off that some criminals would assemble near Millennium Park to plan a robbery, the police laid a trap and arrested the four culprits. They were identified as Amit John, Manoj Bihari, Dharam Singh and Saleem.

Robbers arrested

NEW DELHI: Four alleged robbers have been arrested at Rohini in North-West Delhi. A country-made firearm was recovered from their possession, the police said.

The accused, Manoj, Vijay, Nar Singh and Munna, were arrested when they were planning to target a petrol pump. Their two accomplices, identified as Manoj and Jayanti, managed to flee. A hunt has been launched for them.
