NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Tuesday set up a four-member committee to oversee the enforcement of its orders to shift monkeys from the Capital to Asola Wildlife Sanctuary in South Delhi. A Division Bench of the Court comprising Justice Swatanter Kumar and Justice H. R. Malhotra directed the committee comprising the Chief Wildlife Warden, enforcement officers of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi and the NDMC and social activist Sonia Ghosh to ensure medical examination of the moneys and, if needed, their sterilisation before shifting them to the Sanctuary. The Bench directed the Delhi Government to make available funds to the committee to buy cages to catch the monkeys and then transport them to the Sanctuary. The committee would also see that proper arrangements are put in place to prevent the monkeys from coming back to the city, the Court ordered. It suggested to the Delhi Government to erect a high-rise wall or a moat around the site where the monkeys would be shifted. The directions came on a pending public interest litigation filed by advocate Meira Bhatia.
